A Love Story: Will and Virginia

Will and Virginia sat in the auditorium of the College of Medicine on the very first day of medical school among seventy complete strangers, fearful yet full of hope about the road ahead. Everyone was chattering with their new classmates. Virginia looked nervously around the room while Will, seated behind her, noticed her right away. After a brief introduction by the Dean of Student Affairs, the dean quipped, “Look to your right and left. Not only will you learn and grow with one another, but some of you may even end up marrying each other!” Will and Virginia laughed at this seemingly ridiculous statement, completely unaware of their future together.

The First Meeting

On the second day of orientation, Will told Virginia about his love for French press coffee, and from there, they wound up in the same friend and study group. They met with friends regularly, completing assignments together and preparing for their first exams. The first few months of school were trying—both academically and emotionally—but through these hardships, they grew closer. Will helped Virginia navigate anatomy lab without vomiting, often coming to her rescue when she couldn’t stomach dissecting her cadaver. In return, Virginia devised fun acronyms to help Will remember arterial and nerve branches. Together, they were a dynamic duo. Virginia fell head over heels for Will’s selflessness, sensitivity, and thoughtfulness. By the end of 2021, they started dating and have been inseparable ever since.

Building a Life Together

Over time, Will transformed into a “cat man,” welcoming Virginia’s beloved kitty, Sylvester, into his life. He now relishes being “the chosen lap” when Sylvester curls up on him, purring contentedly. Meanwhile, Virginia embraced Will’s love for metal music and treasures being serenaded by his guitar playing. Together, they’ve shared countless adventures—from skiing trips in Utah (thanks to Jangle and Alyssa) to relaxing days at the beach, Lake Martin, and Will’s family land in Stockton, affectionately called “The Cabin,” where Virginia even learned to drive a tractor.

A Proposal to Remember

Will and Virginia both knew they were meant to be together, but Virginia’s heart soared when Will casually mentioned they would “obviously” match into residency as a couple. After two and a half years of love and adventures, Will surprised Virginia with a proposal she’ll never forget. Thinking they were heading to dinner with Will’s parents to celebrate finishing their last board exam, Virginia was thrilled when Will instead took her to a bluff in Fairhope—the same park where they’d shared their favorite date six months earlier. Sitting on a bench overlooking the water, Will asked Virginia to marry him, and she said yes! It was the happiest day of her life, filled with joy and the promise of their future together.

The Next Chapter

Since their engagement in July 2024, Will and Virginia have been road-tripping throughout the Southeast, creating even more cherished memories. Their most recent trip took them from Mobile to Tampa, then to Charleston, Columbia, and back home, fueled by Virginia’s homemade burritos. As they interview and prepare for residency, they look forward to their next great adventure.

Will and Virginia are deeply grateful for the love and support they’ve received from family and friends. They cannot wait to celebrate the joining of their families and look forward to seeing all their favorite people on May 17, 2025!
